I love this guy! Doesn’t he just work perfect for the mantel during Christmas! I first saw the idea to make the snowman here. I made mine a little bit bigger so it could fit on my mantel.
What you need:
- white yarn
- 20 gauge wire
- 4 buttons
- burlap
- hot glue gun
The first step is to make the body out of yarn. You can do this a couple of different ways. I just used wadded up paper in the center and started wrapping the yarn around it.
After all 3 of the balls are made hot glue them together. I made my balls 2″, 2-1/2″, and 3″.
Glue on the buttons where you want them.
For the arms take the wire and twist it into 3 sections connecting them at the bottom. Then stick them into the middle ball. I had to hot glue mine.
I feel in love with this hat when I seen it and had to have it. It just sets the snowman off. Unfortunately, I had a little trouble with the hat. I tried for about an hour to make it. I couldn’t get it to do what I wanted it to. After getting a little frustrated my husband decided he would give it a try. Wouldn’t you know he makes it after one try. Even though that’s not fair a big thanks to my wonderful husband for making it for me. Unfortunately because of this there are not pictures. I did take a close up of it to try and help. If you have any questions about this part I will try to help you with what I can and my husband can help with the rest.
This is how he done it. Leave about 3″ at the start of the wire and wrap the wire around something that is about 1″ diameter. He used a pizza cutter handle and wrapped it about 15 times. This is for the small end. For the bigger end he wrapped the wire around about 3 times using nothing but his handy dandy hands. The last time around twist it around itself so that it stays together. Fold the 3″ thru the center of the hat and wrap it around the bottom. The reason I had so much trouble with making it is because it is real springy and you have to work with it to get the shape you want. Hot glue the hat into place.
For the pipe wrap it around a pencil about 8 times. Leave about 3″ to fold back for the stem of the pipe. squish it down, and it should stay. I didn’t have to hot glue the pipe for it to stay in. I just stuck it in.
Now for that adorable scarf! Cut some burlap to the size you want. Fold and hot glue!
Take an old peice of scrap wood about 2″ x 2″ and paint it white. Hot glue your snowman to the bottom! I had to do this to get the snowman to stand on its own. You may not have to.
Viola! You have the cutest snowman ever!
